Helen Mirren says 'f*** Netflix': 'There's nothing like sitting in a cinema'

Dame Helen Mirren has criticised Netflix as the debate over cinema and streaming services continues.

The British actor, whose film roles include The Queen and Gosford Park, was attending a CinemaCon conference in Las Vegas when she said: “I love Netflix, but f*** Netflix. There’s nothing like sitting in a cinema.”

Mirren was promoting her new film The Good Liar, which she stars in alongside Sir Ian McKellen.

Her comments were undoubtedly met with approval considering the audience was comprised of cinema chain owners.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Steven Spielberg was leading the charge to block films released on Netflix from contention at awards ceremonies, including the Oscars.

The action was met from disapproval from several notable Hollywood figures, including Selma director Ava DuVernay.

IndieWire reported that Spielberg believes films that aren’t shown in cinemas for longer than four weeks should qualify for inclusion at the Emmys instead.
