Dame Helen Mirren has proved once again that she’s far from the demure character she played in films such as The Queen.
When she appeared on NBC’s Tonight Show on Monday, host Jimmy Fallon suggested that they continue the interview while inhaling helium.
Mirren agreed, saying “I haven’t done this since I was about 11”. Inhaling the gas, she told Fallon: “Suck in.”
Both Mirren and Fallon erupted in giggles as the balloons made farting noises and their voices became high-pitched.
Mirren then suggested she should make an acceptance speech, prompting Fallon to hand her a toy panda.
“Oh thank you. I’m so honored. This is the most fantastic thing I’ve ever had,” Mirren said. “I want to thank my whole crew and my husband. Darling I love you very, very much.”
After Mirren told Fallon she was getting lightheaded, the host asked the Oscar-winning star: “What’s a British dish called? It’s sausage and potatoes.”
“It could be called toad in the hole,” said Mirren. “We also have a dish called spotted dick.”
