Just like a vintage Burgundy, Helen Mirren’s appeal and ability to delight gets better and better.
She proved what frankly did not need to be proved again this week, bringing the talkshow host Stephen Colbert, to a sweating, stammering standstill when she appeared on his show. All by the means of a simple kiss on the cheek.
After waving to the crowd as the intro music played, 70-year-old Dame Helen made her way over to the Late Show host, who greeted her with a handshake.
She then kissed him, declaring: “If I didn’t do it then, I’d never get to do it. I have been dreaming about doing that for 15 years so I just grabbed my chance, I’m sorry.”
Colbert seemed lost for words. “Suddenly I can’t remember any questions. That’s one of the nicest greetings a guest has ever given me. You know what you’re doing.”
