Helen Glover announces pregnancy with husband Steve Backshall at Animal Hero Awards

Helen Glover has announced that she is pregnant while presenting the Mirror’s Animal Hero Awards, alongside her husband Steve Backshall.

The Olympic gold winning former rower had lost one of her twins just over 17 months previously, when she gave birth to her son.

While presenting Barrie the dog with the award for Inspirational Animal of the Year, 33-year-old Helen said: “I’m definitely blaming my pregnancy hormones for this, but I’ve been crying about this story all day.”

Barrie’s owner, former Royal Engineer Sean Laidlaw, credits the pooch for saving his life when he found her in Syria.

She helped him overcome PTSD and now lives with him in the UK.

Helen was glowing in a stunning black dress as she cradled her bump for the cameras.

The pregnancy comes 17 months after she lost one of her twin babies in April 2018 before giving birth to a healthy boy, Logan.

The Team GB Olympic gold medallist was inundated with support at the time and there will no doubt be plenty of well wishers as her family with 46-year-old Steve is looking to expand again.

The pair met in 2014 on Sports Relief and they decided to start a family after their training schedules were relaxed following their sporting efforts.

Helen won gold at London 2012 in the women's coxless pairs alongside Heather Stanning.
