Helen Glover and Heather Stanning have been confirmed in Great Britain’s team for the world championships in France.

The reigning world, Olympic and European gold medalists, who are coached by Robin Williams, are part of a 66-person team for the regatta, which will take place on lake Aiguebelette near Grenoble on 30 August. It also acts as the qualifying competition for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

“The project with Helen and Robin continues to excite me as we are still findings areas of our rowing to improve and ultimately getting faster,” Stanning said.

After winning four gold medals at the world championships in the Netherlands in 2014, hopes are high the British squad can improve their return. The men’s four and eight have strong chances to retain their titles.

After returning from two years out, the Olympic champion Katherine Grainger will continue her comeback with partner Vicky Thornley in the double sculls.
