Heisman Trophy odds shift for Georgia football players after Week 1

The Heisman Trophy odds have shifted following college football’s first weekend of action. Many of these players sat for portions of their Week One matchups due to opposing level of play, but Vegas is taking no time to change their odds after seeing them in action.

Here’s a look at the updated Heisman Trophy candidate odds, along with SEC player odds prior to week 1:

  • Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson: 5/2
  • Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama: 3/1 (previous odds: 11/4)
  • Jalen Hurts, QB, Oklahoma: 5/1
  • Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin: 12/1
  • Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State: 12/1
  • Sam Ehlinger, QB, Texas: 16/1
  • Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson: 18/1
  • D’Andre Swift, RB, Georgia: 20/1 (previous odds: 14/1)
  • Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon: 22/1
  • Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia: 25/1 (previous odds: 14/1)
  • Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama: 25/1 (previous odds: 25/1)
  • Shea Patterson, QB, Michigan: 25/1
  • Joe Burrow, QB, LSU: 28/1 (previous odds: off the board)
  • Adrian Martinez, QB, Nebraska: 40/1
  • Austin Kendall, QB, West Virginia: 40/1
  • Ian Book, QB, Notre Dame: 40/1
  • JK Dobbins, RB, Ohio State: 40/1
  • Kelly Bryant QB, Missouri: 50/1 (previous odds: 25/1)
  • Rondale Moore WR, Purdue: 50/1

Two Georgia players are featured in the top 10, including running back D’Andre Swift and junior quarterback Jake Fromm.  Swift’s odds dropped from 14/1 to 20/1 and Fromm’s from 14/1 to 25/1.

The reasoning for this mainly lies in the low scoring numbers the two had. Swift did not have a touchdown on 147 yards rushing and Fromm had 1 TD on 156 yards passing against Vanderbilt this past Saturday.  These numbers are not bad, but not exactly what the Heisman committee is looking for.

Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts threw and rushed for a combined 508 yards and 6 TDs, while Ohio State QB Justin Fields had 234 yards passing, 61 yards rushing and 5 total TDs.  Both these quarterbacks rose in Heisman odds after week one.

Swift and Fromm will need to put up bigger numbers on a weekly basis if they want to remain in the Heisman conversation and be in New York come December.
