Heinz Ketchup finally settles age-old fridge vs cupboard debate

Heinz Ketchup has finally put an age-old debate, on whether the popular condiment goes in the fridge or in the cupboard, to bed.

The contention, which has long plagued the public, has finally been settled by the 154-year-old sauce and condiment company, after it put the matter to a public vote on its social media page, asking followers: 'Where do you keep yours?'

Many households have been unsure of where best to store the condiment, whether open or closed.

While sometimes seen in a friend or relatives fridge, customers of busy restaurants would notice that ketchup, along with mustard, is often left in large easy-pour refillable bottles on tables or on restaurant countertops.

However, Heinz, which has its operation spread across six continents, said: "FYI: Ketchup. goes. in. the. fridge!!!"

The post, on their official Twitter page, has already been viewed over 4 million times, with viewers chiming in with their own opinions and a simple caveat to the short instruction released by Heinz.

One person said: "Cupboard until its opened and as per instructions in the fridge. Anyone who keeps in the cupboard after opening is weird."

The reason that ketchup must be stored in the fridge after opening is that the flavour and texture declines once it is exposed to the open air. Due to Heinz Ketchup's natural acidity, it is perfectly fine to store in the cupboard before the bottle has been opened.

Another commenter on the post opined: "Cupboard as I hate cold ketchup on warm food. Do fridge dwellers eat cold ketchup? Or bring it out hours before a meal?"

One final person had their say, writing: "Are people really asking this question? After something is opening you store in the fridge DUH."
