Heinz and Tesco recall baby food after fears there's sharp metal in jars

Heinz and Tesco are voluntarily recalling all 7+ months Heinz By Nature baby food varieties in jars after one was tampered with.

Two sharp pieces of metal fragments were discovered inside a jar earlier this week.

Luckily no one was injured but the incident is being investigated by the relevant law enforcement agencies.

This recall involves Heinz By Nature 7+ months baby foods which are sold in 200g jars.

These are Sweet & Sour Chicken, Mango Chicken Curry, Cottage Pie, Cheesy & Tomato Pasta Stars, Sunday Chicken Dinner, Spaghetti Bolognese, Winter Veggies & Lamb and Pasta Bake with Tuna.

People are being advised not to use Heinz 7+ months baby food jars bought in Tesco and to return any jars to Tesco stores where they were bought for a full refund.

The food contained 'sharp metal' (HEINZ)

The Food Standards Agency says: "The possible presence of sharp metal fragments makes this product unsafe to eat and presents a safety risk."

The recall only involves the varieties mentioned sold in Tesco stores. No other Tesco or branded baby products are affected.

Heinz 7+ months jars sold in all other stores are also not affected and no other Heinz baby foods in jars or other packs are involved.

"Consumers can continue to use these products bought from other retail outlets in complete confidence," a spokesman from Heinz said.

A statement from Heinz added: "Safety is our number one priority.

"Products in the range were removed from sale immediately and we are taking this voluntary recall action as a precaution."
