Heightened security for Gordon Brown lecture

A police warning has been sent to people attending Gordon Brown's lecture at the University of Edinburgh next week.

The former prime minister and university rector is set to give the annual Gifford Lecture at the McEwan Hall, focussing on economics.

Everyone who applied for a ticket online has been sent a message from the university outlining security measures for the 19 April talk. It says:

"For security reasons the Lothian and Borders Police have asked us to advise everyone attending Gordon Brown's lecture at the McEwan Hall on 19 April of the following:

- Do not bring bags with you
- Do not use cameras/mobile phones in the McEwan Hall -
- Turn up as early as possible (doors open at 4.30pm) and try and be seated by 5.15 pm
- Ensure you bring your ticket and photo ID with you

Please note anyone arriving after 5.30pm will not be allowed into the McEwan Hall."

Tickets for the event have sold out.
