NAGANO -- A large swing inspired by the anime "Heidi, Girl of the Alps" has appeared at the top of Mt. Iwatake in Hakuba, Nagano Prefecture, giving people a magnificent view of the Northern Japanese Alps.

The swing's top bar is 3.6 meters off the ground, about twice as high as a normal swing set. People using it are required to put a safety belt around their waist.

"You'll feel great if you shout 'Yahoo' at the majestic mountains. I want people to enjoy the autumn leaves in the coming season," said an official of Hakuba Resort Development Co., which operates the service.

The swing is open through Nov. 8, when preparations for the ski season begin. The fee is 500 yen for two minutes.
