Heidi Cruz has deflected questions on Donald Trump’s threats to “spill the beans” on her in response to Ted Cruz supporters posting a risqué picture of Mr Trump’s wife Melania.
Speaking to reporters in Wisconsin, the wife of the Texas Senator, said: “You know, as I said, you probably know by now that most of the things that Donald Trump says have no basis in reality.
“So we are not worried in the least, we are focused on our campaign, and we are going to continue to do that.”
Mr Trump posted a Tweet on Tuesday evening which read: “Lyin' Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin' Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!”
Her husband and the Republican contender for the White House responded: “Pic of your wife not from us. Donald, if you try to attack Heidi, you're more of a coward than I thought. #classless.”
Mr Trump followed up Wednesday morning: ”Lyin' Ted Cruz denied that he had anything to do with the G.Q. model photo post of Melania. That's why we call him Lyin' Ted!“
It is still not clear what Mr Trump would reveal about the 43-year-old.
Heidi Cruz, former economic policy advisor to George W Bush, quit her job as investment manager at Goldman Sachs to support her husband’s bid for president. Her struggle with depression has already been reported.
The nude picture of Mr Trump’s wife Melania was taken 15 years ago and was used in an advert by a Political Action Committee, called “Make America Awesome”, which has raised $20,000 for Mr Cruz’s campaign, but does not work for Mr Cruz.
Liz Mair, the woman behind the advert, has claimed Mr Trump is inciting violence against her and her family.
Mr Trump is no stranger to attacking his rivals’ spouses. He attacked Hillary Clinton’s husband for the affair with Monica Lewinsky and claimed Bill Clinton had a “penchant for sexism”.
