Hector Bellerin 'taking painkillers' in order to play through pain of injury at Arsenal

Hector Bellerin has been taking painkillers in order to play through the pain of his injury at Arsenal, according to reports.

The Gunners right-back has suffered a tear in his right groin, which has made crossing the ball a hard task for the Spaniard.

Bellerin picked up the injury in training ahead of Arsenal's win over Newcastle in February.

The injury is the latest in a series that have plagued the defender this season, after he missed nine games with a hamstring problem in December. Bellerin also missed 31 games last year with a cruciate ligament injury to his left knee.

Bellerin has been fighting through the discomfort in recent weeks, according to The Athletic, who is reporting that the right-back has been taking painkillers.

Bellerin has played a full 90 minutes just 10 times since returning from injury in September 2019, with Sokratis Papastathopoulos starting at right-back in the win over West Ham this weekend.

The Spaniard did come off the bench later on in the match, and is believed to be doing extra training to up his fitness.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta opted against naming Bellerin in his squad for the FA Cup win over Portsmouth last month. He did however bring him off the bench for the final minute of the 1-0 victory over West Ham.

Bellerin is reportedly struggling to cross the ball due to the injury, meaning he is largely ineffective going forward for Arsenal as things stand.
