Hector Bellerin sends message to Arsenal fans after Granit Xhaka is booed off pitch

Hector Bellerin has called for togetherness at Arsenal following the toxic scenes that marred Sunday's draw with Crystal Palace.

An ironic cheer went up when Granit Xhaka's name was called at the Emirates, before Gunners supporters began booing the club captain.

Xhaka reacted by cupping his ears as he walked slowly off the pitch before mouthing the words "f*** off", removing his Gunners shirt and storming down the tunnel.

Bellerin, meanwhile, was left consoling a visibly saddened Lucas Torreira, who was warming up on the touchline at the time.

Taking to Twitter on Monday now that the dust has settled somewhat, Bellerin called for unity.

He tweeted: "We are all humans, we all have emotions, and sometimes it's not easy dealing with them. It's time to lift each other up, not to push each other away. We only win when we are together."

Arsenal boss Unai Emery addressed the incident in his post-match press conference on Sunday night, where he also called for calm.

"He was wrong," said Emery. "We need to stay calm, speak to him internally about that. We are working with the club and the players to play under pressure.

"We are going to speak with him because the reaction was wrong. We are here because we have supporters. We work for them and need to have respect for them when they are applauding us and criticising us."
