Hector Bellerin's desperation for Arsenal transfer exit as common theme emerges

Arsenals' mass exodus looks set to continue as Hector Bellerin draws closer to the exit door at the Emirates.

The Spanish full-back has been heavily linked with a move away all summer but the likes of Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have opted to look elsewhere, leaving him negotiating his future on deadline day.

Instead, Bellerin now appears set to complete a season-long loan to boyhood club Real Betis, who finished sixth in La Liga last season.

There is no option to buy included in the agreement, seemingly due to Betis' financial issues, with Bellerin due to undergo a medical in Seville ahead of the proposed switch.

It has been a difficult road for Bellerin over the past few seasons amid Arsenal's ongoing slump.

Having broke into the first team as a teenager, he soon cemented himself as the Gunners' regular right-back before being named in the PFA team of the year in 2015 and looked destined for a long and illustrious career at the top level.

But a nine-month layoff due to a serious knee injury sustained at the beginning of 2019 put his career on hold and he has struggled to hit the same heights since.

His role within Arsenal's set-up under Mikel Arteta has been continually under scrutiny, and Bellerin has found himself battling with Cedric Soares and Calum Chambers for minutes this season.

Keen to get his career back on track, he has now resorted to a desperate measure by agreeing to take a pay cut to seal a move to Betis, as reports Football London.

This is becoming a common theme among Arsenal stars as the club's troubles on the field continue.

Brazilian forward Willian has only just torn up his contract worth £240,000 per week to join Corinthians on a free transfer after boss Mikel Arteta and Edu admitted to the player's agent Kia Joorabchian that the deal simply "has not gone well".

His departure will save Arsenal more than £20million over the course of the two years he was due to be at the club, with Willian accepting a 70% pay cut to revive his career in his homeland.

Joorabchian told TalkSport: "I had a meeting with Arteta and Edu. They explained that this has not gone well. I said 'leave it with me, I will talk to Willian'.

"Unfortunately, I don't think it has anything to do with Willian. I think something has gone wrong [at Arsenal]. Chelsea offered him a two-year contract at exactly the same salary. It worked out completely to his personal disaster."

Since Arteta's appointment, Arsenal have also mutually terminated the contract of Mesut Ozil to force him out of the club early, while Shkodran Mustafi was also allowed to leave six months before his deal expired.

One player who has not been allowed to leave, though, is Ainsley Maitland-Niles, after Arteta blocked his loan move to Everton.

Maitland-Niles made clear his frustration at Arsenal's decision on social media, but will now not even be allowed to join in with first team training.
