Hector Bellerin injury update ahead of Arsenal's return to pre-season

Hector Bellerin will not recover in time to be fit for the start of next season as he continues to recover from knee surgery.

He picked up the injury against Chelsea in January, and after he was stretchered off it was revealed to be a rupture to the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee.

At the time he was ruled out for "six to nine months", and despite recovering well it has been revealed he will still miss the first few weeks of the new season.

Arsenal's Head of Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance, Des Ryan, said in March that Bellerin could return "at and even higher level" of fitness than he was before, and Gunners fans are no doubt desperate to see the 24-year-old return to action as soon as possible.

Bellerin joined Arsenal's youth team from Barcelona in 2011, and made his first senior appearance for the Gunners in 2013.

He then had a loan spell at Watford before returning to north London, and established himself as a first-team player in the 2014-2015 season.

He has made 181 appearances for Arsenal in total, with a return of seven goals.

The Catalonian was missed by his club in the second half of last season as the Gunners stumbled to a fifth placed finish.

They were also embarrassed in the Europa League final where they were thrashed 4-1 by Chelsea, meaning they missed out on Champions League qualification.

Manager Unai Emery is keen to add to his squad this summer, and with Bellerin now confirmed to be out for the start of the season he may well target a new right-back.

Arsenal have already have a £43m bid turned down for Sampdoria pair Dennis Praet and Joachim Andersen, and have also been linked with a move for PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe.
