Heavyweight champ Andy Ruiz hits back at Stephen A. Smith after ‘Butter Bean’ comment

Andy Ruiz Jr. stunned the boxing world over the weekend when he took down favorite Anthony Joshua to claim all three of his heavyweight title belts.

Despite the feel-good story that came with Ruiz’s upset, many boxing fans were disappointed that the upset seemingly robbed everyone of a superfight between Joshua and Deontay Wilder.

ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith was among those who wanted to see Joshua-Wilder happen over any potential rematch with Ruiz. And in his initial reaction to the seventh-round TKO, Smith poked fun at Ruiz’s appearance, calling him “Butter Bean.”

On Monday, Ruiz took notice to the tweets and had his own response to the First Take co-host.

This was Smith’s immediate reaction, which started it all.

He continued to carry on about the presumably ruined Joshua-Wilder bout.

That was when Ruiz finally jumped in to tell Smith to do his research — he shared a video from 10 years ago where Ruiz predicted that he would one day be a heavyweight champion. To that, Smith (again) made a comment about Ruiz’s physical appearance.

Ruiz didn’t reply after that.

The shocking win improved Ruiz’s professional record to 33-1. He is the first heavyweight champion of Mexican descent.
