Heavy traffic on M5 after HGV carrying eight cars catches fire

An HGV carrying eight cars caught fire on the M5 this morning (September 11).

Emergency services rushed to the motorway after the blaze broke out between junction 15 for Almondsbury and junction 14 for Falfield.

Drivers were warned to "take care on the approach" as long queues built up.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said: "Crews were called at 11.38am to a fire on M5 J15 involving a HGV transporter carrying 8 vehicles (3 affected).

"Crews from Patchway, Avonmouth and Temple were in attendance.

"Two hose reels, one x 45mm jet, two BA and one thermal image camera were used."

South Western Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
