Edinburgh M8 three-vehicle crash leaves lane shut and huge rush hour tailbacks

Police Scotland has confirmed that there has been a three-vehicle crash on the M8 motorway eastbound towards Edinburgh, next to Junction 1, Hermiston Gait.

Delays are expected on the busy motorway near Edinburgh after the crash next to one of the capital's busiest roundabouts has closed one middle lane while the vehicles are removed.

Police Scotland have confirmed that two cars and one lorry were involved in a three-vehicle crash on the M8 during rush hour, and nobody has been injured.

Traffic Scotland posted an update on their Twitter at 7:50am, informing their followers that the M8 Eastbound between J2 Claylands and J1 Hermiston Gait is currently restricted due to a crash.

They advised road users to approach the situation with caution, and allow up to half an hour for traffic delays into the capital this morning.

The tweet read: "NEW 07:50 #M8 Ratho Lane 2 restricted at J1 due to an RTC Police on scene Traffic is heavy back to Uphall on #M8 and Newbridge on #M9 Expect delays ~30 mins. #DriveSafe @edintravel @SETrunkRoads."
