Heavy snow to hit Ayrshire this week as weather forecasters issue warning

Ayrshire is set to be hit with heavy snow tomorrow, forecasters have warned.

Weather experts have issued a yellow warning for a large part of Scotland — including Ayrshire — for Tuesday.

The 13-hour storm window issued by the Met Office states the snow could hit between 11am and midnight.

And forecasters say that travel disruption is likely if the cold snap does indeed hit.

The Met Office warning reads: "A band of rain will turn to snow across Northern England and Scotland through Tuesday.

"2-5 cm is expected to accumulate quite widely across the area, but locally this could reach 10 cm, particularly in parts of the Southern Uplands and Highlands.

"Strong southeasterly winds will also lead to snow drifting in places, particularly over the highest routes, adding to poor visibilities."
