Heavy snow in Wales as Met Office issues weather warnings - pictures

Snow has fallen overnight on the Welsh hills, making roads impassable and driving conditions are described as "treacherous" in places.

Some vehicles were stranded after snow fell across parts of mid and South Wales and roads were impassable in Powys, Ceredigion and Neath Port Talbot, Wales Online reports.

The Met Office has two yellow weather warnings in place - with snow for central Wales and Western parts of England.

It said snow is affecting higher roads in Wales and some Western parts of England, the Met Office said.

The warning affects Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and the tops of the South Wales Valleys and Monmouthshire.

The warnings are in place until 10:00 on Thursday.

Roads which are "impassable" due to snow are the A4109 at Seven Sisters, near Neath, and the A4221 between Abercrave and Coelbren in Powys.

Heavy rain is predicted East of Manchester and South to Nottingham and on the South Coast, including Portsmouth, Brighton and London.

There were difficult driving conditions on the Rhigos Mountain road which was described as "treacherous."

Driving conditions on the M4 around Newport were hazardous because of heavy rain between Junction 28 at Tredegar Park and Junction 32A at Magor Services.

South Wales Police said it was receiving a "high number of calls" about weather-related incidents and urged people to allow extra time if travelling.
