Brits have woken up to a white New Year's Eve after heavy snow fell overnight.
Temperatures were as low as -7.5C during the night, making today one of the coldest days of 2020.
Forecasters have warned of more snowfalls, showers and strong winds over the next few days.
The mercury could hit -12C in Scotland this morning, the Met Office said.
Snow and ice warnings are in force in several parts of the UK including Northern Ireland, most of Scotland and northern England.
At the moment, the Met Office has not issued any warnings in the Midlands.
However, there is a warning for ice in force for parts of south-western and south-eastern England until 11am today.
Almost five inches of snow blanketed the town of Horwich in Greater Manchester overnight.
Met Office meteorologist Clare Nasir said bitter winds coming from the North will hit the UK today.
Some places in southern England will experience drier and brighter weather conditions, but a few freezing fog patches could remain during the day.

The forecaster said: "A very cold start to the last day of the year...New Year's Eve will bear with it again the risk of rain, sleet and snow, another feature sliding down the country from northern Scotland.
"Particularly inland and over the hills we will see some snow.
"Many of us will see some brighter weather, with still a keen breeze keeping things very cold indeed, and again the risk of ice as we head into New Year's Day, with again a wintry mix coming and going, and a fairly widespread frost."
The weather will be particularly cold in Scotland, Met Office meteorologist Ollie Claydon said.
The forecaster explained: "Overnight into Thursday morning we are expecting readings of -12C.
"Hogmanay and New Year's Day could see -10C in the countryside, especially where snow is lying on the ground.
"Even towns and cities will drop below zero, with -4C expected in Glasgow as the clock strikes 12 on Hogmanay.
"But the mercury falls further on Saturday night, when -12C is expected in the countryside again."

Public Health England has issued a "severe weather action" health alert for parts of the UK in preparation for more snow today and tomorrow.
There is also a flood risk for more than 100 areas in the country, with the Environment Agency issuing 31 flood warnings and 70 alerts across England.
More snow and cold temperatures are expected next week, the Met Office said.

The long-range forecast until January 27 says: "Cold or rather cold conditions are likely to continue into this period, with associated wintry hazards.
"Through the second half of the month the chance of colder than average conditions remain most likely, although occasional milder spells are possible.
"There is potential for unsettled conditions to develop across the south bringing above average precipitation, although the risk of wintry hazards would persist nationwide."
Vulnerable and elderly people have been urged to take care during this period as cold weather continues to hit the UK.
