An orange alert means very heavy rain of 11 cm to 20 cm, while a yellow alert means heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm.

The strong winds and rains caused damage to property and vehicles in some parts of the state.

In Thrissur, due to the heavy winds, a heavy branch broke off from a tree on the roadside and fell on a car, piercing through its windshield, while it was moving.

No one was injured in the incident.

The IMD has predicted an early onset of the monsoon which is expected to land in the state on May 26.

It had also predicted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of Kerala between May 28 and June 3.
