Heavy rain has continued to pound Kodagu with reports of landslides reported at two places in the district in the last 24 hours.
The district administration has declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Wednesday in view of heavy rains since an orange alert has been declared in Kodagu till 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The incessant downpour has been causing damage to the infrastructure of Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) as nearly 50 electric poles were damaged due to hammering rains accompanied by gusty winds.
Landslides were reported at Chamundeshwari Nagar and Karike-Bhagamandala Road.
According to the district administration, 227 mm rain was recorded in the district in the last 24 hours.
In Shanivarasanthe hobli, a 70-year-old woman was injured after the wall of her house collapsed. The woman, Vasanthamma, has been admitted to hospital. Two houses were partially damaged at Shanthalli hobli which is one of the major rain-affected areas. A tree fell on a house in Sampaje which is also witnessing heavy rains for the past few days.
Rain havoc has been widespread in Madikeri taluk where 101.80 mm rain was recorded in the last 24 hours. Virajpet taluk recorded 54.83 mm rain and Somwarpet received 40.87 mm rain since Monday.
Sampaje (144 mm), Bhagamandala (122 mm) and Shanthalli (111 mm) were among the major rain-affected areas as rain has been lashing continuously in the last 24 hours.
The inflow into Harangi dam has continued to remain high following rains in its catchment area. On Tuesday, the inflow was 9,497 cusecs and the outflow was 12,866 cusecs.
Ten electricty poles of 11 KV trunk lines were damaged at BBTC estate near Siddapura due to tree fall.
There was power disruption in Madikeri since morning in view of emergency work on the 66 kv line from Kushalnagar to Madikeri.
According to KSNDMC, 125 mm rain was recorded at Made and 126 mm rain at Galibeedu, both in Madikeri taluk on Tuesday.
Senior CESC engineers visited the areas where the infrastructure of electricity supply was damaged. Restoration work is ongoing at the Murnad section where several poles have been damaged.
Stones that had fallen on the road after landslides on Bhagamandala-Talacauvery Road were removed by the revenue staff with the help of locals. Traffic movement was restored after the debris was cleared from the road.
