Heavy rain wreaks havoc in Tak

TAK: Heavy rain hit four districts -- Muang, Sam Ngao, Ban Tak and Wang Chao -- in this northern border province late on Saturday night, causing flooding and partial blackouts in many low-lying areas.

In Muang district, many spots in the municipal area were flooded, including a stretch of about 100 metres on Phahon Yothin road in front of Phadung Panya School. On Sunday morning, workers of the Tak Municipality and a local highway office were mobilised to drain water from the road, which is a major artery linking the North and the Central regions.

In Sam Ngao district, a tree fell across Phahon Yothin road by a PTT petrol station near the entrance to Bhumibol Dam, blocking traffic. Local and highway workers were removing the fallen tree from the road.

The powerful storm and heavy rain also caused power blackouts in tambon Wang Hin of Muang district and parts of Wang Chao district. The power supply resumed after the problem was fixed by electricity workers.
