A flood watch has been issued for large parts of South Australia's mid-north with heavy rain forecast.
The Bureau of Meteorology says falls of up to 100 millimetres are possible in some areas on Friday.
More widespread totals of up to 60 millimetres are also likely.
The bureau says the rain will lead to a rapid rise in local creeks and some possible flash flooding.
The areas mostly likely to be impacted include the Flinders Ranges, the Broughton River, Lake Frome, the Danggali rivers and creeks, northwest Lake Torrens, the Riverland, Eastern Eyre Peninsula and Yorke Peninsula.
A low pressure system is moving across South Australia bringing the rain and thunderstorms.
But Adelaide will miss out on the worst of the weather, with the city tipped to get 10 millimetres at most.
However, meteorologist Jenny Horvat said some thunderstorm activity could drift into the northern suburbs.
She said showers would persist in some district into next week, and the longer range forecast for November remained for above average falls.
"But keep in mind we are moving into what typically is a dry period for South Australia," she said.
