Heavy rain is set to hit Merseyside today as the Bank Holiday heatwave makes way for a washout week.

The Easter weekend was an absolute scorcher across the region - with Merseyside's beaches packed with people out enjoying the glorious weather.

But after days of high temperatures and uninterrupted sunshine, things are about to take a turn for the worse with heavy rain forecast.

The Met Office is predicting showers throughout the day on Merseyside - with a high chance of heavy downpours later in the afternoon.

Things will stay dry for much of the morning, with thick cloud covering most of the region - but by 11am this could be replaced by light showers in some areas.

Experts are forecasting some sunny spells around midday, offering a glimpse of the pleasant weather Merseyside enjoyed over the weekend.

But by later in the afternoon, there is an 80 per cent chance of heavy rain, with showers continuing into the early evening.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week, the picture looks mixed - with light rain, cloudy skies and sunny intervals.

Temperatures are also set to take a noticeable dip, dropping from the mid-20s enjoyed over the weekend to l ows of 8 C later in the week.
