Heavy rain set to batter Edinburgh and Lothians with flooding possible

Edinburgh and the Lothians are bracing for a night of heavy rainfall which could bring flooding to some areas.

A yellow weather warning is in place for Monday, with the downpour expected to begin around 10pm on Sunday.

It follows a weekend of mainly warm weather in and around the capital.

Thunderstorms were earlier forecast to hit Edinburgh but the Met Office now says this will mainly affect areas further south in the UK.

The yellow warning for rain is in place across much of Scotland throughout Monday. The Met Office says the rainfall "may lead to some flooding and travel disruption."

Spray and flooding could cause difficult driving conditions and some roads may have to be clsoed.

There is also a small chance of power cuts due to the risk of thunder.
