A yellow warning for rain is in force across the Nottingham area for most of this week.
The warning came into force at 4am this morning and continues until midday on Thursday.
The Met Office stated on its website that the warning covered a large area of England including Birmingham, Peterborough and Newcastle.
It stated: “There is a chance that heavy prolonged rain could lead to localised flooding and disruption to transport.
“There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.
“Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.
“Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
“There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads.”
The Met Office weather forecast for Nottingham is for heavy rain between now and about 7pm on Wednesday, when it will be replaced by lighter rain.
That lighter rain is expected to finally come to an end at about lunchtime on Thursday.
Maximum temperatures will be around 13C and minimum overnight temperatures will be around 10C or 11C.
The coming weekend is expected to be largely dry with temperatures of up to 17C on Saturday and 18C on Sunday.
