Heavy rain in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal experiences power cuts

BHOPAL: Unseasonal and delayed rainfall in many parts of the state resulted in sudden rise in water levels in some rivers and waterlogging at most parts. Rain continued throughout the night.

With 300 mm rainfall in Karhal, many rivers were overflowing in Sheopur while neighbouring Guna district received 100 mm of rainfall. In the state capital rain that started on Sunday night continued through the night and there were intermittent spells on Monday too. Bhopal received 48 mm of rainfall.

As it rained in the city, several residential colonies witnessed power cuts that lasted four to six hours. Besides, the already battered roads in the city turned unmotorable.

Met office later said that that the weather system that brought about rainfall has moved away from Bhopal. The maximum temperature recorded in Bhopal was 33 degrees Celsius while a minimum of 22 degrees Celsius was recorded in the morning.

Weather office attributed the present atmospheric conditions to a low pressure area over central Madhya Pradesh with associated cyclonic circulation upto 4.5 kms of average mean sea level and western disturbances. However, the weather office said, the system has started waning and will weaken further on Tuesday.

Heavy rainfall activities were witnessed in many parts of the state especially in the Gwalior and Chambal divisions. Karhala tribal block in Sheopur district received 310 mm of rainfall on Sunday. Sheopur had already borne the brunt of floods in the first week of September. Guna received110 mm of rainfall flooding the Parwati river downstream.

Meanwhile, weather office has issued warning for very heavy showers at some places over the districts of Sheopur, Bhind, Morena Datia, Shivpuri, Balaghat, Panna, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Damoh, Sagar and Niwari districts in the next 24 hours till the morning on October19.
