Heavy rain forecast to lash Greater Manchester as Met Office issue weather warning

Flooding could hit parts of Greater Manchester in the next two days.

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning of heavy rain on Thursday into Friday morning.

Forecasters are warning the rain is likely to cause flooding in some areas.

The warning is in place from 6am on Thursday until 6am on Friday.

The downpours are likely to affect the eastern areas of Greater Manchester, including Oldham, Rochdale, Tameside and parts of Stockport.

The Met Office has said the heaviest rain is expected in the early hours of Thursday morning, from 5am to 9am. Lighter rain is expected throughout the rest of Thursday.

According to the Met Office website, "flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely", while the downpours could also affect bus and train services.

The warning states flooding on the roads could make journey times longer and there could be some disruption to power supplies.

"Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life", the Met Office stated on its site.

The rest of Friday daytime looks dry with some sunshine.

However Saturday will bring more wet weather in the morning and afternoon.

Sunday will be dry with some cloud.
