
Heavy rain fell over areas including Hiroshima Prefecture from Monday to Tuesday due to the impact of a rain front and humid air, causing landslides and river flooding.
In Higashihiroshima, Hiroshima Prefecture, the local fire department received an emergency call around 6 a.m. Tuesday that a landslide had occurred at a mountain behind a private house. According to the Hiroshima prefectural police, a woman in her 80s and her son in his 50s, who both live in the house, are missing. Firefighters and others are continuing to search for them.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the 12-hour rainfall to 4:40 a.m. Tuesday hit a record high of 164.5 millimeters in Miyoshi, Hiroshima Prefecture. The prefectural government and the Hiroshima Local Meteorological Office issued landslide alert information throughout the prefecture.
The Shimane prefectural government said Tuesday that the Gono River overflowed at two locations in Gotsu in the prefecture. Water has overflowed from the left bank, flooding communities along the river.
