Heavy rain and thunderstorms expected as Met Office issues yellow weather warning for Nottinghamshire

A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued for Nottinghamshire.

Storms are expected the county later today (July 11).

Worksop, Sutton on Trent, Ollerton and surrounding areas are all set to be affected between 12pm and 9pm.

The rest of the county has the weather warning in place from 1pm to 9pm.

Nottinghamshire County Council has asked road users and local residents to look out for fallen trees and report any issues to its helpline.

What to expect?

The Met Office is warning that there is a danger of flooding and lightning strikes, as well as the possibility of delays to train and bus services.

The warning says: "There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater and lightning strikes.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
