Heavy rain and gales to hit Greater Manchester this weekend

Autumn has arrived with a vengeance as heavy rain and gales are predicted to continue over the weekend and flood warnings are in place for large parts of Greater Manchester.

As many parts of Greater Manchester were left mopping after being lashed by downpours on Thursday, the city region was bracing itself for more wet and windy weather.

Some roads had to be closed and others were barely passable because of surface water, and it's not over yet, according to the Met Office.

This morning (Friday) a number of roads across Greater Manchester remained flooded after the heavy rain.

There will be a cloudy start to Saturday with spells of rain continuing through the morning before a band of persistent and sometimes heavy rain arrives early afternoon.

There will be coastal gales possible early on, then remaining blustery. Temperatures will reach a maximum of 13 °C.

The outlook for Sunday and beyond is for sunny spells and showers, locally heavy and thundery, continuing into Monday.

And the Met Office said there was potential for more persistent rain on Tuesday. It will stay windy on Sunday before easing into Monday and Tuesday.
