Heavy rain and floods closed 11 Rushcliffe School classrooms

A school in West Bridgford had to close 11 classrooms after heavy rainfall and floods battered Nottinghamshire.

Rushcliffe School, in Boundary Road, was hit by floods along with other parts of West Bridgford on Thursday, which closed roads and affected buses and trains.

The secondary school has remained open on Friday, November 15 and teachers were to inform students of any potential room changes.

In a statement on Twitter on Thursday at 5.30pm the school said: "There has been flooding in B block today as a result of run off from the building site at Sharp Hill.  11 classrooms are closed.

"We expect to be open as usual tomorrow but please check our website/twitter for any updates in the morning. Tutors will inform pupils of room changes."

On Friday at 7.19am the school added: "We can confirm that school is open as usual today for all staff and pupils. Form tutors will inform pupils of room changes this morning" (November 15).

A petition was set up on Change.org to have the school closed, which has acquired more than 200 signatutres.

It simply reads: "School flooded, bad work environment, dangerous."

Nottinghamshire Live has contacted the school for more information.
