Heavy rain is expected in the lower Central Plains including Bangkok, the East and the upper South from Sunday as a depression moves in from Vietnam and Cambodia, the Meteorological Department warned on Friday.
The depression was to the west of the Philippines on Friday evening and was moving slightly northwesterly at 27 kilometres per hour, said department chief Wanchai Sakudomchai.
He predicted the storm would pass over central Vietnam and Cambodia between Sunday and Tuesday. That would increase the risk of heavy rain, flooding and runoff in the East, Greater Bangkok, the lower Central Plains and upper South, he said.
On Sunday and Monday there could be stormy conditions in Bangkok and its outskirts, Chanthaburi, Chon Buri, Chumphon, Kanchanaburi, Prachin Buri, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Ratchaburi, Rayong, Sa Kaeo, Surat Thani and Trat provinces.
On Monday and Tuesday more impact is predicted in Chumphon, Krabi, Phangnga, Phuket, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Ranong and Surat Thani.
People operating boats are advised to take precautions in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea where waves would be about two metres high. People living along the eastern coast of the South should beware of waves during the period.
