A heavy police presence was spotted off Scotland Road this morning as officers cordoned off the area.
A scientific support van and officers were seen patrolling on Limekiln Road, close to the main road.
Pictures from the scene showed officers patrolling and searching the grass, as officers confirmed a search was taking place today.
A spokeswoman for the force said: "The police presence on Scotland Road is linked to pre-planned open land searches taking place today."
It is not clear at this stage if officers found anything while scouring the area, or why the area was specifically being searched.
