Heavy police presence in Paris for Algeria-Senegal AFCON final

PARIS (Reuters) - French authorities deployed some 2,500 police staff in the streets of Paris on Friday to prevent possible clashes among football fans as Senegal faced Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations final in Cairo.

After Algeria secured a 2-1 win over Nigeria in last Sunday's semi-final, police arrested 282 people across France.

Joy from supporters in Lyon, central France, escalated to confrontations with anti riot forces. Dozens of cars and dustbins were burned down overnight.

In France, which holds large Algerian and Senegalese communities, celebrations are expected to take place until Sunday.
