Heavy police presence in George Square and Glasgow Green as hundreds gather at anti-lockdown protest

Hundreds of people have marched through the south side to gather in the city centre this afternoon to protest lockdown restrictions.

Glasgow Live understands the marchers have walked from Govanhill to the city centre, with separate groups have gathered in George Square and Glasgow Green.

One eyewitness told Glasgow Live they watched people being escorted away by police officers.

There is a heavy police presence in the city centre, with officers mounted on horses and others on motorbikes and in vans.

Some of the protesters are chanting "freedom" and holding signs against lockdown restrictions.

The protests appear to be UK-wide, with a similar one taking place in London.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced that lockdown restrictions will begin to ease on Monday.
