Heavy police presence as 800 Loyalist marchers parade through Govan

Hundreds of loyalists were warned to behave as they set off through Glasgow under heavy police escort this morning.

Around 100 were at the scene on Edmiston Drive as bus loads of marchers arrived to take part in the parade by the Pride of Govan Flute Band.

It's believed 17 bands travelled from across the west of Scotland to take part.

Notices were handed out to participants by band volunteers stressing the need to stay calm.

It said: "We must stress the need for a dignified response from all taking part today, be it bandsmen or supporters.

"Please do not give the haters any cause to portray the PUL community in a negative way."

So far the parade has been peaceful, in stark contrast to the full-scale that broke out on Friday, August 30, when Loyalists tried to disrupt an Irish Republican march in Govan.

This is one of four Loyalist marches in the city today.
