An exhibition spotlighting heavy machines used at construction sites opened Friday at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) in Odaiba, Tokyo.

Visitors to the exhibition, "Kojichu!" (Under Construction), can see hydraulic excavators, bulldozers and other heavy equipment up close and feel their power. Coorganized by The Yomiuri Shimbun and other entities, the show will continue through May 19.

The exhibits include 10 real heavy machines, from old ones to the latest machine with two robot-like arms. Also on display are gigantic parts of machines used at construction sites. These include the driver's seat and hook of a huge crane.

On the opening day, visitors were enjoying a firsthand experience of the machines by taking their photos in front of them or even climbing into the driver's seat of a small hydraulic excavator.

"I've come with my children because they like watching construction sites." said a 38-year-old mother from Koto Ward, Tokyo, who brought her two children with her. "It's a great idea that we can look at and get onto heavy machines."
