Heavy flooding disrupts India’s financial capital Mumbai

Monsoon season has arrived and the elements have disrupted India’s financial capital of Mumbai.

Heavy flooding has brought transport to a standstill as scenes of platforms packed full of commuters but no trains has become the norm. It has forced people to brave the waters in order to get around.

A Mumbai meteorological department has recorded 61mm of rain in 24 hours, with more rainfall predicted over the next two days.

Rainwater is vital for rural farming but excessive rain can cause landslides and water borne diseases.
