Heavy downpours set to batter Liverpool as Met Office issue weather warning

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning with heavy rain predicted to batter Merseyside .

The downpour is expected to affect Merseyside throughout Wednesday, only slowly easing during Thursday morning.

Around 20 to 40 mm of rain could widely fall, with 50 to 80mm possible over high ground and as much as 100mm in a few locations.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Spells of heavy and persistent rain have the potential to bring flooding and disruption to transport in places.

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

"Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

"Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures and there is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads."

This comes after the Met Office said the expected weather conditions for late June and early July remain very uncertain.

At present the most likely scenario is that we will continue to see occasional spells of wet and windy weather, however there will probably be more in the way of drier spells too by the end of June and into the first week of July.
