Heavily pregnant woman in serious condition after car crashes into her in Peak District

A pregnant woman was taken to hospital in an air ambulance after a car crash in the Peak District.

Police were called to the village of Chinley in Derbyshire shortly after 12.15pm on Sunday (October 25).

The incident involved a man and a woman, both pedestrians, and a Citroen C4.

Officers say the woman, who was in the late stages of pregnancy, was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital by air ambulance.

She is in a serious but stable condition and the baby was delivered safely.

The man was treated for what are believed to be minor injuries.

Police have confirmed the driver of the Citroen C4 was a man in his 90s.

A Derbyshire police spokesperson said: "A number of comments regarding the incident have been made on social media.

"While there is an ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the collision, officers are clear that the driver of the vehicle, a man in his 90s, has a full driving licence."

Anyone with any information, in particular dashcam or CCTV footage, should contact Derbyshire police on 101 or via the force's social media channels quoting reference number 376-251020.
