Heavily pregnant Sheridan Smith opens up about ITV's new drama Isolation

A heavily pregnant Sheridan Smith has told of how she "jumped at the chance" to film ITV's new drama Isolation - which focuses on the lives of individuals adjusting to life in quarantine.

The 38 year old, who stars as Mel in the first episode, told fans back in November that she's expecting her first with fiance Jamie Horn.

Now she's told of her excitement at getting to film a new series with ITV despite keeping herself housebound.

"I am heavily pregnant and have been isolating at home," she told, "So I jumped at the chance to make a drama about the massive drama going on all around us right now.

"I think it's really important to try and reflect on what's happening to us while it's still actually happening."

Sheridan's character Mel is all alone in her house, and faces the prospect of giving birth without the father - who's married, and isolating with his wife and kids.

Mel is totally miserable but takes comfort that the rest of the world now knows what it's like to be cut off.

The show is filmed in strict accordance with the rules of self-isolation and social distancing.

The stars' families will film the footage, which will then be watched by the directors remotely.

The directors will then give feedback on camera angles, lighting and scene composition.

Other stories include that of Ron and Russell, brought to life respectively by real son father and son Robert and Tom Glenister.

Dad Ron has caught the deadly bug, and historic gripes are resurrected as the lockdown forces son Russell to isolate with him.

Darren Boyd, Angela Griffin, and Eddie Marsan also star in the series.

Oscar nominee Jeff Pope and Tom Dunbar executive produce, and the line of directors boasts Paul Whittington, Paul Andrew Williams, Louise Hooper and David Blair.
