A heavily pregnant cyclist seriously injured in a hit and run in Leicester has lost her baby, police have said.
The woman, in her 40s, was involved in a collision with a vehicle in Aylestone Road, near the junction with Park Hill Drive, at about 9.30pm on Monday.
She was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary where she remains after doctors found she had lost her baby.
The driver involved in the crash was reported to have failed to stop at the scene, Leicestershire Police said.
A 40-year-old man from Leicester was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of drink or drugs in connection with the incident.
He has since been released from custody while police continue to investigate.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hawkins, of Leicestershire Police, said: “We are continuing to provide support to the woman injured and her family as the investigation continues.
“Despite the arrest our enquiries remain ongoing as we continue to establish the full circumstances of the incident on Monday evening.
“We do urge anyone who has any information in relation to the incident, and who has not yet spoken with us, to make contact.
“Anyone who has any CCTV or dashcam footage from the scene of the collision at the time of the incident or prior to the collision should also get in touch.”
