'Heavily intoxicated' man arrested at Nottingham Station on suspicion of child neglect

British Transport Police say they arrested a 'heavily intoxicated' man at Nottingham station - and have charged him with child neglect.

Police have confirmed that the child has been safeguarded and returned to a family member.

According to the Licensing Act 1902, being intoxicated while in charge of a child in a public place is illegal, with parents even facing a prison sentence.

On twitter British Transport Police said: "Officers on foot patrol at Nottingham Station identified a male who was heavily intoxicated whilst in charge of a child.

"Male was arrested, interviewed several hours later and charged with Child Neglect .

"The child has been safeguarded and returned to a family member."
