Drugs found at house at centre of four-hour siege in Adelaide, police say

Police have closed Elwood Road and surrounded a property.

Police say they have found drugs and hydroponics equipment in a house in Adelaide's north that was surrounded by heavily armed officers during a four-hour siege.

A 45-year-old man who lives at the property on Elwood Road at MacDonald Park has been reported for trafficking a commercial quantity of a controlled drug and possessing proscribed equipment.

Heavily armed police and negotiators surrounded the house on Elwood Road at MacDonald Park after concerns were raised about the welfare of a woman inside the house about 11:00am.

A woman and another man earlier left the property separately and have spoken with police.

Elwood Road was earlier cordoned off as officers from the new Security Response Section (SRS) and STAR group surrounded the house, but has now re-opened to traffic.

Police said negotiators also attended the scene, and suspected a firearm may have been on the property.

An SA Police spokesperson said the incident is not believed to be linked to an earlier shooting in nearby Smithfield Plains.

Two men armed with a firearm and a machete smashed their way into a Roberts Crescent house through a glass door about 3:30am and threatened five people inside.

One of the residents — a man aged in his 20s — ran out the front door of the house and the suspects chased him, firing two shots towards him, police said.

Police said the suspects then ran away and likely left the area in a vehicle parked nearby.

No-one was injured other than minor scratches, but police said occupants of the house were "not fully cooperating".

Police cordoned off the street and appealing for any CCTV footage.

It is not being treated as a random attack.

In another gun-related incident in Adelaide's north, police said detectives had today searched the premises of a Finks bikie gang member.

Two people have been charged after a shotgun and ammunition were located on the premises, police said.

A 47-year-old man from Salisbury Downs was charged with contravening a firearms prohibition order while a 47-year-old woman from Salisbury Downs was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm.

Police said evidence also indicated tattooing was being undertaken at the premises and police expected further charges to be laid.

The man was refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today, while the woman was bailed to appear in the same court on August 26.
