Police arrest man following firearm incident at Ellenbrook Speedway

Police Tactical Response Group officers attended the scene at Ellenbrook.

Police have taken a man in his 20s into custody after they locked down an area in the north-eastern Perth suburb of Ellenbrook amid reports of a man armed with a gun.

Police said the man in his 20s was armed with a modified rifle and had been on the run after shots were allegedly fired into a vehicle near a business in Bindoon late yesterday afternoon.

The man allegedly drove off in a four-wheel-drive belonging to a family member, but later abandoned it near Ellenbrook Speedway.

Police received information about his location and arrested him just before 11:00am on Gnangara Road in Ellenbrook.

The man, who is known to police, was allegedly wearing a backpack containing the rifle when the heavily armed Tactical Response Group arrested him.

No one was injured.

Earlier police had set up road blocks on Maralla Road and Railway Parade near the Ellenbrook Speedway and members of the public had been asked to avoid the area.
