It may be September but the last of the summer heat is set to hit Ayrshire later this week.
And a 'Mediterranean plume' has been forecast to nudge the mercury up with temperatures of 26C being predicted by weather experts.
Both Ayr and Kilmarnock is forecast to hit 26C on Wednesday with Irvine managing 25C.
But the sunny weather isn't set to last long with Thursday showing rain and thunder with highs of 21C.
The Mirror reports that the dramatic change to the conditions is thanks to a so-called ‘Mediterranean plume’ hitting the UK.
Meteorologist Alex Deakin said: “A shift in high pressure does mean that many of us will see sunnier skies and it will also be turning warmer, especially as we head into next week.

“Higher temperatures are on the way, though the weekend and particularly into next week. Many of us will see some September sunshine.”
