The UK is to be gripped by a midsummer heatwave to coincide with lockdown restrictions being eased across the country.
With sun-drenched music festivals now able to go ahead, the Met Office predicts a “hot spell” of weather is expected to hit England from July 19 and last until August 2, above the average 21C normally expected.
So far the end of June and the start of July has been plagued by rainy spells and chilly weather but a heatwave is inbound the second half of July caused by a hot plume of air banishing the downpours.
The heatwave is set to coincide with Tramlines, from 23 to 25 July, which is set to be one of the largest festivals to take place in Europe since the pandemic began.
The Met Office said from July 20: “Temperatures are likely to be above average for much of this period, with an increased chance of some very warm spells occurring in the south.”
We will have to hold on until then as they warn that any sunny spells will be broken up by occasional thunderstorms with highs of 23C expected on Thursday in London.
Flood alerts are in place in the River Cut near Slough and Reading and other areas of the south west.
The heaviest rain will be across the northeast of England as well as parts of Scotland, while other regions will see some sunny spells.
Wednesday will continue with the unsettled weather and forecasters predict a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers, along with a risk of thunder in eastern regions.
